3ds max microwave

The first thing we had to do was learn the basics of using 3ds max, we learned how to change the units to centimeters. We then had to choose what box shaped kitchen appliance we wanted to make so we used ao.com to search what we could make, i chose to make a microwave.

We then had to use the website to find the measurements of the microwave and then make it so the box shape on 3ds max was the correct size as the microwave.

We then had to unwrap the box
which would enable us to put in the pictures of the microwave from every angle using photoshop, we then saved the photoshoped unwrapped microwave as a jpeg and then used material editor on 3ds max to create the microwave.

reflecting on feedback

I received feedback from the photos I posted on the interactive media Facebook page.

abstract landscapeportrait

In the first photo the feedback said that I should of focused more on a certain part of the stairway and not getting the floor in the photo. but as I was taking the photo there was no way of me getting the photo without the floor being in the way.

In the second photo the feedback said that the use of the rule of thirds was good but the photo should be more straight not wonky.

In the third photo the feedback said that the lighting could of been better along with the composition.

Introduction to research: Phones

Phone

In the last couple of lessons i have been in we have been learning about the research unit in the course, we have been learning about what primary and secondary research is and what qualitative and quantitative research is.

Primary research is where you collect information on your own by talking, drawing or making questionnaires and surveys. Secondary research is where you collect information using research that has already been collected by someone else for example using computers, books, social media, news and more.

Qualitative research is where you use words to find out information for example using personal responses from a questionnaire or a survey. Quantitative research is where you use numbers to find out information for example asking questions with a 1-5 answer, then collecting all the answers and finding the most common answer.

The first thing i had to research was what phone out of the few i would be happy to use was the cheapest. Because i use contracts i chose phones that had a good contract and were the cheapest, best deals i could find. i mainly used the Vodafone website because it had all the phones i chose on there and it showed all the prices and the deals they would give, it also showed all the features of the phone for example if the phone had a camera, how much memory the phone had and how many calls and texts you could use.

The first phone i researched was the iPhone 6, the most expensive phone on the list with £9 upfront and £44 per month, the phone’s cheapest deal was unlimited call minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB of 4G and 16GB of memory on a 24 month long contract.

The next phone i looked at was the Samsung galaxy S6 which is the next expensive below the iPhone with £9 upfront and £44 per month. This is the phone i would chose because it is less expensive than the iPhone and the cheaper contract deal has includes more memory, but the iPhone does have more minutes and more internet than the Samsung. The contract for the Samsung also lasts 24 months.

The next phone i researched was the Nokia Lumia 735 which costs £0 upfront and £22 per month, the cheapest contract deal has 500 minutes for calls and unlimited texts with 500MB of 4G and 8GB of memory. The contract also lasts 24 months.

The next phone was the HTC one Mini 2 which costs £0 upfront and £22 per month, the cheapest contract deal allows 500 minutes for calls and unlimited texts with 500MB of 4G and 6GB of memory. The contract lasts for 24 months.

The next phone is the Sony Xperia Z3 compact which costs £0 upfront and £25 per month, the cheapest contract gives you 1000 minutes for calls and unlimited texts with 1GB of 4G and 16GB of memory. The contract lasts for 24 months.

The next phone is the LG G3 which costs £0 upfront and £21 per month, the cheapest contract allows 1000 minutes for calls and unlimited texts with 1GB of 4G and 16GB of memory. the contract lasts for 24 months.

the last phone i chose was the Blackberry classic which costs £0 upfront and £22 per month, the cheapest contract allows 500 minutes for calls and unlimited texts with 500MB of 4G and 16GB of memory. the contract lasts for 24 months.

3D Mind Map

3D mindmapGames: 3D design is used in games to make the gameplay better and more fun to play, the use of 3D in games environments makes the game better to look at and will make the experience better, for example the environments in the Halo games have improved in each game and now they have designed the surroundings to look as realistic as possible.

Science: 3D Scans are used so that scientists can learn as much as possible about a body part or bones. They have used 3D modelling to picture how a body would have looked like by scanning the bones and the skull of a body. They have also used 3D printing to replace missing or damaged body parts.

3D printing: 3D printing is used to create objects made from a 3D image of the object from a computer. It is also used in medical work, it is used to replace missing or damaged body parts.

Films: 3D modelling is used in films to replace buildings when they what to destroy something or to replace actors using CGI, For example they didn’t go and destroy half of New York in The Avengers, they replaced the buildings with 3D models and destroyed them.

interior design: 3D modelling is used in interior design to plan out what is going to change before actually changing it, it is used to test out were everything should go and to see if it fits.

Product design: 3D modelling is used in product design so that they can plan out the product first before making it, it can be used to see if there can be improvements to the product and to see if it can be made.

Art: 3D modelling is used in art to create images and art pieces.

Language of photography

The first photo i have chosen was taken by Steve Bloom, in this photo it clearly shows that the chimp is reaching out to feel the rain, that means that the chimp isn’t just a beast, it means that the chimp understands its surroundings and it is learning and it creates a feeling of happiness.

The second photo i have chosen was taken by Steve McCurry, the photo is a portrait photo and the image is of a young woman who looks like she has been through hell. You can fell by her rugged clothes that she is living in poverty and in hellish circumstances , you can also tell by her stare that she is terrified. The way the photo was taken was so that the main feature of the photo was the stare so people who see the photo will feel sorry and will want to help.

This last photo i have chosen was taken by David Evans, it shows a tree in front of beautiful landscape so the genre of this photo is landscape. It is a deep photo and it creates a feeling of sadness and loneliness because you can see the beautiful landscapes in the back while a lone tree is stuck in the middle of a lake with nowhere to go.

Photography car tilt shift

for this lesson we had to take a photo of a area and change the features of the photo so it would look like a tilt shift photo.

IMG_7404

this was the photo i took, i used this angle so it would look as if the cars and the surroundings were a toy set, then i used photoshop to change the photo.

Car tilt shift

what i did was i used the gradient tool to draw a line across the photo then i blurred the area i wanted to blur and used the saturation and contrast to change the look of the photo.

Applying research tools and methods to drawing

Today we were told to choose a kitchen appliance from home and first draw it by memory, then the next week we had to get the measurements of the kitchen appliance and take a photo of it then draw the appliance again with the measurements and the photo. We did this to see if it is better to draw images using your memory rather than collecting the information and using the research to make the image more detailed.

image1 (2)

My first task was to draw the kitchen appliances i chose that i have at home by memory, i chose to draw a microwave because i use it almost every day, then after drawing it i had to take photos of the kitchen appliances and get there measurements from home and draw them again but using the photo and the measurements so that it was to scale. Then we had to compare the drawings to see if the one drawn by memory was to scale and to see if all the features were in the same place, both my drawings were quite different and the features were in different places for example the drawings from memory were bigger and were not as detailed as the one that was drawn using the picture and the measurements.

In the end i found out that using all the research i collected made the drawing better and more detailed than the one from memory.

manipulated images

Photoshop is used to change the appearance of people and to edit so that the person will appeal to a certain audience.

For example in this photo of Angelina Jolie, they have smoothed her face and got rid of moles on her cheeks and faded wrinkles, they have also brightened her skin. they did this to make her look younger and prettier.

angelina jolie

Another photo i have chosen is one of Harry Styles, in this photo they have smoothed his skin and also darkened it, they have also got rid of all the spots and the hair on his face. They did this to make him look younger than he actually is.

harry styles

This shows that most celebrities don’t want to look like they do, they want to look as perfect as possible.

Because most magazine owners are male dominated they want their magazines to appeal to both female and male audiences so the objectify the women in the magazines so that they appeal to men, but that means more women will want to look like the celebrities or models in the magazines so some people go to dangerous measures to try and copy their favourite celebrities for example people stop eating to lose weight or they get surgery to change their face to get rid of imperfections.

Since image manipulation was first used, a wider range of people now have access to the technology that is capable of image manipulation, for example anyone with a smartphone has the ability to take a picture then edit and crop out the bits they don’t want and make the picture look as perfect as possible.
